Lately, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to lose touch with yourself when life gets busy.
It doesn’t always happen in some big, dramatic way. Sometimes, you simply wake up and realize you’ve been going through your days on autopilot.
You’re getting things done, answering messages, showing up where you need to be, and taking care of whatever comes your way. But somewhere in the middle of all that, you forget to check in with yourself.
I think that’s where I’ve been lately.
The past few weeks have been a lot—the house, the air conditioning, work, lesson plans, WellNuvo, errands, laundry, groceries…all of it. And even when things begin to settle down, my mind doesn’t always catch up right away. It stays stuck in “keep going” mode.
That’s something I’ve been noticing: sometimes the emergency is over before your body realizes it.
You’re still rushing, thinking ahead, and trying to solve the next problem. You’re still carrying that feeling that something else is waiting for you.
But I’m starting to realize that I don’t always need a big break. Sometimes, I just need a small moment to remember who I am outside of everything I have to do.
Maybe that means sitting somewhere quiet for a few minutes, listening to music I love, or stepping outside for some fresh air. Maybe it’s working on something creative simply because I want to—not because it needs to be finished. Maybe it’s calling someone who makes me laugh or doing something small that feels familiar and comforting.
I think we underestimate moments like these. We tell ourselves that getting back to who we are requires some major reset—a weekend away, a new routine, a perfectly clean house, or an empty calendar.
But maybe it’s much simpler than that.
Maybe we come back to ourselves little by little: one choice, one quiet morning, one walk, or one meal we actually sit down and enjoy. Maybe it’s one evening when we decide not to squeeze in five more things, or one moment when we realize, “I don’t have to rush right now.”
That realization has been important for me because when life has felt full for a long time, it’s easy to forget what “normal” even feels like. You get used to being stretched thin. You get used to feeling behind. You get used to carrying that quiet sense of urgency everywhere you go.
Then, one day, you finally sit down and realize you don’t want to keep living that way—not because everything has to change, but because you miss yourself a little.
I think that’s what I’m noticing now.
I want to feel more present. I want to know that I’m doing things because they matter to me, not simply because they’re on a list. I want to enjoy what I’m building, laugh more, and recognize when I’m actually having a good day. I want to stop rushing through every moment just to reach the next one.
And I don’t think I need a whole new life to make that happen. I think I just need to pay attention.
I need to notice what makes me feel more like myself, what helps me feel calm, and what I keep putting off even though it brings me joy. I need to recognize when I’m tired instead of automatically pushing through it.
That’s what I’m working on this week. Nothing huge—just paying attention.
What brings me back?
What helps me feel grounded?
What lets me breathe a little deeper?
What makes me feel like me?
Maybe those are good questions for you, too.
Because sometimes we don’t need to become someone new. Sometimes, we simply need to find our way back to who we’ve always been—the person who got a little buried beneath the schedules, responsibilities, expectations, and noise.
So this week, I’m not trying to reinvent anything. I’m just looking for a few small ways back.
Back to quiet.
Back to laughter.
Back to the things I enjoy.
Back to being present.
Back to myself.
And maybe that’s enough.
Welcome home.
